Laser Dentistry
Lasers are used in several fields in dentistry.
At Dental Innovations, we use the soft tissue diode laser in certain procedures to enable faster healing, reduced bleeding, reduced post operative pain and inflammation and for its bacteriostatic effect.
Here are some of the treatments possible with the laser:
- Teeth Whitening
- Laser bacterial decontamination of gums (done as an adjunct with cleaning)
- Laser management of gum pockets
- Laser depigmentation of gums: A procedure done to lighten the colour of the gums.
- Lingual Frenectomy: Removing the lingual tongue tie. A tongue tie can prevent a baby from being able to suck milk and can affect swallowing and speech in children and adults. This procedure can be done in patients of all ages, right from new born babies to adults.
- Labial Frenectomy: Removing the muscle that joins the upper or lower lip to the gums. This muscle can cause a gap between the front two teeth and its constant pull can cause gums to recede. It is sometimes used as an adjunct to braces or gum therapy.
- Low Level Laser Therapy for Management of Temperomandibular Joint (TMJ) pain: The laser brings immediate (temporary) relief in TMJ pain. 3-4 sessions are recommended. It is used as an adjunct to other therapies to help manage TMJ pain.
- Exposing slow to erupt teeth: The laser is excellent to remove thick gum tissue over slow to erupt teeth, allowing for faster and less traumatic eruption of these teeth.
- Operculectomy: Erupting wisdom teeth often have a flap of gum over them called the operculum, that causes pain and trauma. This flap of gum tissue is easily trimmed away with the laser.
